TWO MORE TOWNS PULL OUT OF SMART GROWTH
|
This month, two different sources have told Take Back Wisconsin, that two more towns have opted out of Comprehensive Planning. The first occurred on August 6, 2003. The town of Erin Prairie, in St. Croix county took a vote and sent a clear message to the county. They are the first of 6 towns, collectively joined in what is known as the "Heartland Project," to pull out of the Smart Growth/Comprehensive Planning. County planners had no comment. On Monday, August 10, 2003 the Village of Almond in Portage County surprised and shocked the county planners when they pulled the pin on the county grant money and Comprehensive Planning. The Village of Almond had kept their decision making process "under the radar" from other towns and the county planners as well. This makes the third party in Portage County to pull out. The town of Linwood pulled out first back in April, followed by the Village of Rosholt in June. According to Take Back Wisconsin sources there may be more surprises in Portage County in the very near future.
